Step 1: Measure the Window’s Exterior Border
Using a tape measure and a pencil, measure the width of the exterior edges of the window beginning from the top frame, to the middle then down the bottom. Take note of each measurement on a piece of paper.

Fit the blinds into the window’s frame then measure again the frame’s size from side to side. For uniformity, round off your measurements to the nearest 1/8 inch.

Step 2: Measure Height and the Dimensions of your Window
Measure the height of your window’s outside border along the middle and then to the left and right sides. Note all measurements and find out which part needs more length of the blinds.

Then finally, on the window frame’s top portion, place your blinds. Measure the outside mount dimension which is intended for the window blinds. For most types of window blinds, about one and one half overlap along each side is needed, therefore about three inches should be added to the recorded measurement.

Step 3: Install your Outside Mount Blinds
Mounting the blind brackets into the window is usually the most complex step in fixing the blinds up. Make sure to lengthen the mount blinds.

Measure the dimensions of your window blinds and check if it will perfectly fit your window. Two inches or the exact measurement of the window frame to which the brackets are attached should be added to the recorded measurements.

Always remember, when placing outside mount window blinds, there is a need to add up a little extra height and width to your window blinds. Doing this will provide you with a well-covered window.
