For those that still love curtains and drapes but wish to have more control of the light entering the rooms, consider keeping your curtains but still fitting blinds such as wood Venetian blinds or even vertical blinds.
Have a look at this guide to help you find the perfect blind for every window in your home.
Venetian Blinds:
Wooden Venetian blinds are ideal in rooms that need more light control and are available in a range of different woods to fit your décor. Opening the slats to different angles gives you varying degrees of light and you can raise them completely for full sunlight. Venetian blinds are perfect for kitchens and bathrooms but be sure to choose wood blinds that have been treated to withstand the damp environment to prevent mildew from forming on them. Otherwise, consider fitting aluminium Venetian blinds available in a wide range of colours to suit your colour scheme.
Vertical Blinds:
For rooms that require a lot of light (think dining rooms and living rooms), vertical blinds are the way to go. They also offer light control so that you can close the blinds completely, open them to allow light in or pull them to the side to all full sunlight to enter the room. They’re also great for offices that need lots of light.
Roman Blinds:
These blinds are very popular in bedrooms, especially children’s rooms and nurseries. They can be pulled down to darken the room for an afternoon nap or opened up to allow the light in. they’re made from opaque fabrics in colours and designs to fit in with the décor of the room. When closed, they cover the entire window, but when opened, they fold into attractive folds.
Roller Blinds:
Ideal for rooms that need the light to be completely blocked out.
If you already have pretty curtains or drapes in the bedrooms and nursery, consider fitting roller blinds to your windows to block out any sunlight or streetlights. They also look very attractive on their own and are available in a wide range of colours. Use on their own in rooms where you don’t need as much privacy, for example the dining room.
Bamboo Blinds:
Bamboo blinds work very well in rooms where you are looking for maximum privacy while still allowing some light into the room. Like fabric roller blinds, bamboo blinds can be rolled up to allow full sunlight into a room or pulled down when in need of privacy. Ideal for bedrooms that already have curtains to block out the light but not recommended for nurseries.
